Kelechi A. Kalu earned his Ph.D. in International Studies from the Graduate School of International Studies, University of Denver in 1997. He taught political science and life of the mind courses at the University of Northern Colorado where he was promoted to the rank of Professor of Political Science in 2004.
He served two terms as Program Chair of the International Studies Section of the Southwestern Social Science Association and one term as President of International Studies Association-Southwest.  He is a recipient of several academic and service awards/recognitions from the University of Northern Colorado--including a Teaching Excellence Award, a Faculty Member of the Year Award and other professional bodies such as the Association of Third World Studies, which honored Kalu with its “2004 President’s Distinguished Leadership & Service Award.”  He was also honored with the Senior Honors Council 2005 Distinguished Service Award (UNC).  
Professor Kalu is the author of Economic Development and Nigerian Foreign Policy (Edwin Mellen Press, 2000) and editor/contributor, Agenda Setting and Public Policy in Africa (Ashgate Publishers, 2004).  With two consecutive grants from the Ford Foundation, Kalu undertook field research in Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda, South Africa (2001 and 2002) and other neighboring African states. And one of the outcomes of the research is under preparation and will be a book on Political Restructuring in Post-Conflict States in Africa.  He has published several book chapters and journal articles on African and Third World Issues.  He currently serves as Book Review Editor for Journal of Asian and African Studies. Currently, Kelechi Kalu is a Professor of African American and African Studies and Director of the Center for African Studies at The Ohio State University.  His most recent publication is a co-edited volume on Socio-Political Scaffolding and the Construction of Change: Constitutionalism and Democratic Governance in Africa (with Peyi Soyinka-Airewele, Ithaca College) (Africa World Press, 2009).
